Snehal Ghangrekar - Snehal Ghangrekar

Born in Hyderabad and having spent my childhood in different parts of south India, have many interesting moments down the memory lane. Growing up with my blessed family, I have learnt and explored many different aspects, and my father has been the constant source of inspiration to live life with ‘Anandam’ eternal joy in any and every phase of life you maybe.

My mother has always been a strong foundation and support to the family in every situation with unconditional love. My parents have always lived up with the values even in the adversities. Their energies, selflessness, motivation, determination, encouragement & love have been my support and strength in life. Their love for traveling has also contributed to develop the vision to look beyond and within. Since childhood I have traveled to several places & parts of India, broadening the outlook through experiences of adventures, unpredictable situations, surprises, excitements....

Later our travel to religious places increased the interests to explore and discover more and it evoked a strong feeling of love and longing to merge with the deep rooted culture rich in values and beyond the barriers. Especially the ‘Yatras’ with our beloved spiritual Guru Shri Appaji are cherished with great experiences.... My Yatra has just begun in search of my soul through art. My painting series ‘Yatra’ is a recollection of the magnificent moments of my travel- the journey within and the journey outside...it reflects the journey of life from childhood the ‘Child living in wonder’ to the enlightened state of (‘Sadhu’) the Saint.

I have captured the forms & images in the frame of mind and sketched it in the form of pencil drawing and transformed those moments with translating colours as the exposition of joy. The lines flow to form the contours and water colours enhances the flow of expression with its pure & transparent layers merging and emerging with bold washes and strokes.

Our deep rooted tradition inspires me to explore from the vast treasure around. The more I go deeper, the more interesting and intensely I feel about it.

It is the quest for knowledge in the seekers, the devoted souls in tune with the one above, the ‘Raagies & the Vairaagies’ who have the deeper insights, an urge to merge with the lord in carnet.

The existence of the cosmic energy in these divine souls and the experience of this universal joy energies others in their path of life.

There is an additional force that acts and exists within and when the human being realizes this force of energy flowing, he evolves more in self introspection and proceeds on his journey of self realization. Yet the innocence exists in their enlightened state. The similarity in the child and the enlightened saint is the innocence in the ‘unknown’ and the innocence in the ‘known’.

Here is the joy of splendor and the splendid. The merger of ‘the Seeker’ and ‘the Sacred’. It’s always been my passion to paint these inspiring moments in their silence and simplicity. My ‘Yatra’ continues to have a holy dip in the confluence of art and heart.

The Yatra series has traveled from the previous series of paintings on ‘Banjaras’ , ‘Character Sketches’, and ‘Gopi’.

The ‘Banjaras’ reflected the bold and graceful characters of the nomad women. Their vibrancy and rustic scenario was very striking and captivating. It drove my passion to capture the images with strong expression in bold washes & strokes in watercolours accompanied with sketchy lines.

The ‘Character Sketches’ was also the exposition of joy and the sense of freedom to express the forms and figures captured in the frame of mind. The moods of the characters, there engrossment in their own world, their innocence and devotion inspired me to portray these interesting moments with splashes of colours, flowing washes and bold strokes conveying the deep sense of meaning.

‘Gopis’ was a painting series in oils. ‘Gopi’ is the one with eternal love for the lord of love himself ‘Krishna’, she devotes everything, her whole & soul and showers her love and prayers at his lotus feet. My paintings on ‘Gopis’ are an effort to explore their devotion and experience their blissful state of splendor within.

Now the quest, the search, the curiosity continues to explore new horizons, different worlds of ‘Woven dreams’. Here my paintings express a thousand words, weaving together different moments of life, our treasured experiences, the manifestation of joy and celebration on the canvas of life. Here the paintings unfold different aspects of the character with narrative and detail forms delicately woven. We live with layers of personality, some we exhibits and some we inherit. Sometimes we silently withdraw in our cocoons to look beyond and within.

Life is an inspiration with all the different moments and events woven together forming interesting patterns. I visualize these patterns in the form of a beautiful ‘Quilt’ expressing the warmth and the feelings of the joy in silence and celebration….
